Description
Orchard Cottage is a house dating from the early 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the mid-20th century. It has a timber frame covered with roughcast and a plain tiled roof. The building consists of two framed bays aligned east to west, with the east gable end slate-hung and a large external chimney with offsets at the west gable end. It is a single storey with an attic, although the framing is not visible from the outside.
On the north front elevation, there are two single-light ground floor casements from the 20th century, which have cambered heads, and an attic light is located in the left gable end. The main entrance is at the rear of the house. Inside, the main ceiling beams are stop-chamfered, and the cross-frame is revealed and intact. There is a winder staircase in the east bay. A lean-to addition encloses the chimney at the west end, and there is also a 20th-century flat-roofed single storey addition at the east gable end, which features a 2-light casement in its north front elevation.
