Description
Pound Cottage is a house that dates back to the 17th century or earlier and was restored in the mid-20th century. It features a timber-framed structure with painted brick and rendered infill, as well as painted brick replacement walling. The cottage has a thatched roof that is hipped at the north gable end. It consists of three framed bays and includes a large external stack with tiled offsets, a bread oven, and a rebuilt detached stack at the south gable end. The building is single storey with an attic that has dormers.
The framing is retained at the north end, showcasing two panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with short straight braces in the upper corners. The collar and tie-beam truss at the south gable end features two struts to the collar. The front elevation has irregular fenestration, with three 3-light casements on the ground floor—one in each bay. Above the central bay, there is an eyebrow dormer with a small 2-light casement. To the right of the central bay, there is a 20th-century gabled brick porch that includes a ledged and battened door and rectangular lights in the side elevations. Inside, the central bay contains a winder staircase. There is also a 20th-century extension at the rear of the north bay.
