Description
The dovecote, dated to the early 17th century, is located 80 meters southeast of Pumphouse Farmhouse. It is constructed with a timber frame and red brick infill, topped with a plain tiled roof. The building has a square plan and stands tall on a high brick plinth. The framing features three roughly square panels between the sill and the wall plate, with tie-beam trusses visible in the northwest and southeast gable ends. One gable end includes four struts above the tie beam, while the other has a V-strut. On the northwest side, there is a small plank timber door with strap hinges set within a reduced opening in the plinth. Above this, high in the gable, is a small rectangular two-light opening with a V-strut above the lintel. The roof is topped with a wooden, gabled flight lantern that has alighting ledges and entry holes on each side. Although the interior could not be inspected in 2017, it is known to be lined with approximately 250 L-shaped timber nesting boxes that do not have alighting ledges.
