Description
Well Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century that was restored in the mid-20th century. It features a timber frame with painted brick and rendered infill, as well as brick replacement walling and a thatched roof. The building has four framed bays aligned north to south, with a large external chimney at the rear and at the south gable end. It is a single storey with an attic that includes dormers.
The framing consists mainly of three panels from the sill to the wall-plates, with collar and tie-beam trusses that have three struts to the collar and a V-strut in the apex. The east front elevation displays irregular fenestration, with the ground floor featuring one single-light window, one three-light casement, and two two-light casements. There are three eyebrow dormers, each with a two-light casement window. The central entrance has a decoratively carved lintel, likely from the 17th century, and a 20th-century multi-paned door. Attic lights are present in the gable ends.
The interior was not inspected. There is a 20th-century single-storey extension to the rear north bay that connects the building to a large 20th-century extension, neither of which is of special architectural interest.
