Description
Snape House is a house dating from the early 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the mid-19th and mid-20th centuries. It is timber-framed and sits on a plinth of lias limestone rubble, with painted brick infill and a plain tiled roof. The structure consists of three framed bays aligned north to south, featuring a chimney inserted between the north and central bays. This chimney includes a brick ridge stack and an external brick chimney with offsets at the south gable end. The house has a single storey and an attic with dormers.
The framing consists of three panels from the sill to the wall-plate. The south gable end features a collar and tie-beam truss with two collars, four struts to the lower collar, and two to the upper collar, as well as a concave V-strut in the apex. On the west front elevation, the ground floor has two rectangular lights, a three-light casement window, and a 19th-century outshut to the right that includes a bay window with a central 12-pane sash and 8-pane side sashes. There are also two gabled dormers with 2-light casements and a lean-to tiled porch with a 20th-century door. An attic light with plank weathering is present in the south gable end. The interior has not been inspected. Additionally, there is a 19th-century single-bay addition that adjoins the north gable end.
