Description

Oak House Farmhouse is a mid-17th century farmhouse that has been restored in the mid-20th century and is now a house. It features a timber-framed structure with rendered infill on a brick plinth and has plain tiled roofs. The building is arranged in an L-plan, with the main range consisting of three framed bays aligned east to west. It has external brick chimneys with offsets at the gable ends, a single framed bay in the north wing to the east bay, and a lean-to addition at the angle.

The farmhouse is two storeys high, with an attic and cellar. The framing includes four panels from the sill to the wall-plate, and the gable end of the wing has very long straight braces across the lower corners. The roof structure consists of collar and tie-beam trusses with four struts to the collar and a V-strut in the apex.

On the north front elevation, all the windows are 20th century leaded casements. The main part has a lean-to addition on the ground floor featuring a pair of 2-light windows, a 2-light window on the first floor, and the main entrance next to the north wing, which has a 20th century door with a narrow side light to the right. There is also an entrance on the right side of the lean-to addition. The gable end of the wing has a pair of 2-light windows with a plank weathering on both floors and a first-floor 2-light window in the angle with the main part. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
