Description
The Old Post House is an early 17th-century house, restored and extended in the 20th century. It is timber-framed with rendered infill, built on a limestone rubble base. The south front and west bay have been refaced with brick and rendered, and the roof is thatched. The house has four bays aligned east/west. The main entrance is positioned in the second bay from the east end, creating a baffle-entry plan. A large chimney is positioned to the north of the west bay, with a rebuilt stack and offsets. The building is single-storey with an attic, featuring dormers.
The north elevation reveals timber framing with two panels from sill to wall-plate. Wall posts and short straight upper corner braces are visible at the east end, along with a truncated collar and tie-beam truss, from which the struts are missing. The south front has 20th-century casement windows, including a bow window, a three-light window, a two-light window, and a single-light window on the ground floor. Four eyebrow dormers with two-light windows are also present. The main entrance has a half-glazed 20th-century door. A single-storey extension was added at the east end in the 20th century. The interior, which was not inspected, is noted to contain two large fireplaces.
