Description

Cross Cottage is a house located on Beckford Road in Ashton Under Hill. It dates back to the 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the mid-19th and mid-20th centuries. The building is constructed from limestone rubble and features a thatched roof with a brick chimney at the north end.

The house is arranged in a two plus one bay configuration, aligned north to south, with a large chimney at the north end and the main entrance situated in the gable end next to the chimney. It is a single storey with an attic that includes dormers.

On the west front elevation, the main two-bay section has two ground floor windows and two eyebrow dormers. There is also a single-bay addition from the 20th century at the south end, which is slightly lower in height and includes a ground floor window and an eyebrow dormer. All windows are 2-light casements from the 20th century. The main entrance at the north end features a thatched hipped-roof porch supported by timber posts and a 20th-century door. Additionally, there is a small single-storey wing adjoining the north end, which is partly timber-framed and boarded. The interior has not been inspected.
