Description

This building is a barn located about one yard southeast of Old Manor Farmhouse. It dates from the mid-17th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th and mid-20th centuries. The barn features a combination of timber framing with rendered infill set on a limestone rubble base, as well as sections built entirely from limestone rubble. It has a plain tiled roof that is half-hipped at the west end.

The barn consists of four framed bays that are aligned east to west, with wagon bays located in the first and third bays from the west end. There are cart entries on the south side only. Two additional rubble bays are attached to the west end and extend the main roof ridge. The framing includes three panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with short straight braces in some upper corners. Both gable ends feature a collar and tie-beam truss, with the west end being enclosed by a rubble addition. There are four struts supporting the lower collar, with rails in between, and a single central strut to the upper collar.

On the south elevation, there is a two-light window, while the east end has two rectangular windows and an owl hole. A 19th-century lean-to addition with a catslide roof is attached to the west elevation of the rubble section. Inside, the roof of the framed part has three intermediate collar and tie-beam trusses, each with two struts. The rubble section has a similar intermediate collar but features three struts to the collar and a V-strut in the apex.
