Description
This building is a barn and cowshed located about 20 yards east of Manor Farmhouse. It dates from the 17th century, with some alterations made in the mid-20th century. The structure is constructed from a combination of limestone rubble and timber framing, which is weatherboarded on a rubble base, topped with a corrugated metal roof.
The barn features three framed bays that are aligned north to south, with a central wagon bay that has cart entries on opposite sides. The framing includes three rows of panels extending from the sill to the wall-plate, with short straight braces in the upper corners. The end walls are made of rubble. Inside, there are two intermediate collar and tie-beam trusses with raking struts, as well as smaller raking struts in the lower corners, and two tiers of purlins.
Adjoining the north gable end is the cowshed, which is a single storey with three bays. It has a door and small openings on its west elevation and north end. The roof of the cowshed features two intermediate king-post roof trusses. Inside, the cowshed retains a continuous feeding manger made of oak and elm, and there is a poultry loft situated on a half-floor above the manger.
