Description

Bredon Springs is a house, formerly divided into two dwellings, built around 1735 and extended in 1781 with mid-19th century alterations. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble and has plain tiled roofs with a large brick stack at the rear of the main ridge. The building has an L-plan layout, with the original single-bay section oriented north-west to south-east and featuring a large external rubble chimney on its north-east side. This chimney was modified and enclosed by a 2.5-bay wing added in 1781, which includes a through-passage in its central bay.

The house is two storeys tall. The south-east front elevation of the main range, built in 1781, has two 3-light 19th century casement windows on both floors, and a 2-light casement window in the chimney bay on both floors, with all ground floor windows having cambered heads. The main entrance, located in the central bay, features a curved canopy supported by ornate shaped brackets and a door with four raised and fielded panels. There is a rebuilt brick stack to the right front of the roof ridge. The gable end of the original part on the left has a ground floor 3-light casement window with a cambered head and a 4-light casement window on the first floor. On the south-west side of the original part, there is a door with a moulded architrave, above which is an inscription reading "w C July 28 1735". There is also a 19th century addition at the rear and a 20th century single-storey addition at the north-east end.

Inside, timber-framed bay divisions are preserved, along with stop-chamfered main ceiling beams. There are large back-to-back fireplaces, each containing two bread ovens. The section added in 1781 features a floor made of limestone flags and an elm winder staircase.
