Description

ASHTON UNDER HILL CP PARIS SO 9837 - 9937 11/34 Molehill Cottage - II

House. Late C16; restored and extended 1976. Timber-framed with rendered infill on limestone rubble base with some limestone rubble walling; thatched roof, half-hipped at north-west end, with brick stack at south-east end of ridge. Two framed bays aligned north-west/south-east with large chimney at south-east end. Single storey and attic with dormers. Framing: three panels from sill to wall-plate, truncated collar and tie-beam truss with two struts at north-west end. South-west front elevation: windows are all C20 casements; ground floor has three 2-light windows, the two smaller ones are paired beneath a continuous plank weathering. There is an eyebrow dormer in the south-east bay with a 2-light window. Also glazed C20 door in south-east bay. Attic light at north-west end. There is a substantial C20 limestone extension to the north-west of the house and linked to it by a glazed single-storey bay in which is situated the present main entrance. Interior: frame largely intact. Large fireplace and bread oven in south-east bay. Elm winder staircase in north-west bay.
