Description
Croft Cottage is a house dating from the early 17th century, which has been restored and extended in the mid to late 20th century. It features a timber frame with rendered infill set on a limestone rubble base, and has limestone rubble end walls topped with a thatched roof. The building consists of two framed bays aligned north to south and includes an external rubble chimney with offsets and a brick stack at the south end. It is a single storey with an attic that has dormers.
The framing consists of three panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with short solid upper corner braces and collar and tie-beam trusses at both ends. The south end has two collars with two struts to the lower collar and one strut to the upper collar, while the north end features two struts to a single collar and V-struts in the apex.
On the east front elevation, all windows are 20th-century leaded casements. The ground floor has three 2-light windows, and there are two eyebrow dormers with 3-light windows. The main entrance is located to the left of the north bay and features a thatched porch, which continues the thatch from the main roof, supported by timber posts, and a glazed 20th-century door. There is a possible original cambered doorhead in the south bay. The interior has not been inspected. A 20th-century single-storey addition is located at the south end and to the rear right.
