Description

Doricot and The Post Office is a house that also serves as a post office, dating from the 16th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and mid-20th century. The building is timber-framed, featuring painted brick and rendered infill set on a limestone rubble base, with some replacement walling and refacing in painted brick. It has a hipped thatched roof with a brick stack located at the rear of the ridge.

The structure consists of three framed bays arranged in a north/south orientation, with a large chimney situated between the central and northern bays. There are also small external rubble chimneys with brick stacks to the east of the southern bay and at the northern end. The building is single-storey with an attic that includes dormers. The framing on the west side shows close-set studding above a girding beam, and there is a truncated collar and tie-beam truss with a moulded tie-beam and four struts at the southern end.

On the east front elevation, all windows are 20th-century leaded casements. The ground floor features two three-light windows with cambered heads and a single-light window. There is a central eyebrow dormer with a two-light window and a ledged and battened door with a cambered head located in the southern and central bays. At the northern end, there is a timber-framed lean-to with a catslide roof. The interior has not been inspected.
