Description

ASHTON UNDER HILL CP ELMLEY ROAD (west side) SO 9838 - 9938 7/19 Doricot and The Post Office II

House, partly used as post office. C16 with mid-C19 and mid-C20 alterations. Timber-framed with painted brick and rendered infill on limestone rubble base and painted brick replacement walling and refacing, hipped thatched roof with brick stack to rear of ridge. Three framed bays aligned north/south with large chimney between central and north bay and additional small external rubble chimneys with brick stacks to east of south bay and at north end. Single storey and attic with dormers. Framing: close-set studding above girding beam on west side and truncated collar and tie-beam truss with moulded tie-beam and four struts at south end. East front elevation: windows are all C20 leaded casements. There are two 3-light windows with cambered heads and a single- light window on the ground floor, a central eyebrow dormer with a 2-light window and a ledged and battened door with a cambered head in the south and central bays. Timber-framed lean-to with catslide roof at north end. Interior not inspected.
