Description
Down Yonder is a house located off Elmley Road in Ashton Under Hill. It dates back to the 17th century but has undergone alterations and additions in the mid-20th century. The building features a timber frame with painted brick and rendered infill set on a limestone rubble base, along with some limestone rubble walling and a hipped thatched roof. It consists of three framed bays arranged east to west and has a large external rubble chimney with a brick stack and a bread oven at the west end. The house is single-storey with an attic that includes dormers.
On the south front elevation, all the windows are 20th-century casements. There are five single-light windows and one two-light window on the ground floor, as well as three eyebrow dormers with two-light windows, which are larger in the outer bays. The main entrance is located in the central bay and features a thatched porch supported by timber posts, along with a 20th-century stable door. At the east end, there is a single-bay lean-to addition made of limestone rubble, topped with a thatched roof and featuring a two-light window in the south elevation. The interior has not been inspected.
