Description
This is a house located at 1 School Lane, dating from the 16th to early 17th century. It features a timber frame with curved braces and brick infill on the upper storey, while the ground floor has been rebuilt in brick. The gable displays a decorative pattern of vitreous brick in the form of diamonds and crosses. The roof is covered with old tiles, and there are external brick chimneys on each side of the building.
The house has two storeys and two bays. The side facing School Lane has paired wooden casements with bars flanking a chimney in the left bay, another window on the first floor to the right, and a 20th-century door to the right of centre. The right gable includes a three-light window on the ground floor and a two-light window above it. There is a 19th-century bay to the left along the lane, constructed from flint and brick, featuring a narrow band course and raised eaves. The casements are similar, with the upper storey window located in a gabled dormer; there is also an entrance to a passage on the left.
Inside the older part of the house, there are heavy longitudinal joists and a roof supported by queen strut trusses with curved wind-braces. The fireplaces are later additions. It is possibly built as a cross wing to the Old Beams.
