Description
Old Beams is a house dating from the 16th to early 17th century. It features a timber frame with brick infill, which was formerly whitewashed, and the ground floor was rebuilt in brick in the 19th century. The roof is covered with old tiles, and there is a large external chimney made of flint and narrow brick at the right end. The house has two storeys and two bays.
On the ground floor, there are wooden casements, with an old three-light window to the left and a two-light window to the right. The first floor has small horizontal sliding sashes, with the left window having a 20th-century single casement above it in a gabled eaves-line dormer. There is a 20th-century door to the right of centre, which is topped by a flat wooden hood. At the rear, there is a small blocked window with original mullions located below the eaves. Old Beams was probably once part of No. 1, School Lane. Inside, the interior features timber framing in the cross walls.
