Description

The Old Bakehouse is a house that dates back to the 17th century, located in Turville Village. It originally consisted of two bays on the right, which were altered in the 18th century, and it was extended to the left in the late 18th to early 19th century. The right bays feature a timber frame with brick infill in the right gable, while the front has been rebuilt in brick. The left bay is constructed of flint with brick dressings. The building has an old tile roof and brick chimneys on the right and at the rear of the central bay. It is one storey high with an attic and has three bays in total.

The left bays have large three-light wooden casements on the ground floor, along with a flush-panelled door that has a top-light above it. The right bay contains a three-pane sash window on the left, which is fitted with a 19th-century flush-panelled wooden shutter, and a paired barred wooden casement on the right with a board shutter. There is also an 18th-century two-panelled door with a segmental head in the centre of this bay. The building features three gabled eaves-line dormers, each with paired barred wooden casements. At the back, there is an early 19th-century wing that was formerly used as a bakery.

Inside, the right bays retain timber framing, including a stop-chamfered spine beam in the central bay and curved wind-braces in the right bay. There is also an old door with moulded boards.
