Description
The Maltings is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house, dating from the late 17th century, with mid-18th century and 19th century alterations. It is constructed of squared coursed limestone and features a concrete tile roof. Originally designed with a three-unit plan, it has been modified to a four-unit layout. The building is two storeys high and has a five-window range of 19th century style casements set beneath wooden lintels. The ground floor window on the far right has a hood mould, and there is a six-panel door to the right of the centre, which is topped by a 19th century gabled hood. There is evidence of a blocked door that has been converted into a window to the left of the centre. The right gable has an ashlar parapet, and there are ashlar stacks with remnants of moulded cornices at the ridge and ends. The bay on the far left is a later addition. The rear elevation includes some 20th century windows.
Inside, the room to the right of the entrance features a 17th century fireplace with a four-centred arch head and a moulded stone surround. The two rooms to the left of the entrance have open fireplaces with bressumers. There are also some 18th century two-panelled doors and an early 19th century staircase with an original stick balustrade, although this is only present on the flight.
