Description
Number 78 is a house with attached outbuildings on the left, dating from a datestone that suggests it was built in 1618, although it is mainly from the mid-18th century. The building is constructed of squared coursed limestone and features Collyweston and pantile roofs. It originally had a two-unit plan and stands two storeys high, with a two-window range of 19th-century casements under wooden lintels. There is a 19th-century canted wooden bay window on the ground floor to the left, and a central six-panel door that is sheltered by a 19th-century gabled hood. The house has a pair of gabled roof dormers, ashlar gable parapets, and brick stacks at both ends. The datestone is located in the apex of the left gable. The outbuilding attached to the left of the main front was originally a bakehouse, featuring a pantile roof and a plank door on the far right. There is also a 19th-century single-storey extension at the rear of the house. Inside the outbuilding, there are remains of 19th-century bread ovens, while the interior of the house is said to have remnants of an open fireplace.
