Description

This is a house located at 87 Main Street, dating from the early to mid 18th century. It is constructed from squared coursed limestone and features a thatched roof. The building has a three-unit plan and stands two storeys tall. The entrance front, which is positioned at right angles to the road, consists of a three-window range with irregularly spaced casements that are topped with gauged stone heads and wooden lintels. On the first floor, the left window is a leaded casement. To the left of centre, there is a plank door with strap hinges, also beneath a gauged stone head. A semi-circular former stair turret is located to the right of centre and has a lean-to roof. The central chimney stack is made of ashlar with a moulded cornice, while a brick stack is situated at one end. The gable elevation facing the road features 19th-century casements under gauged stone heads, along with ashlar gable parapets and kneelers. Although the interior was not inspected, it is noted to have ceiling beams and the remains of an open fireplace. The building was used for a time as an early Baptist meeting house.
