Description

Austin's Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the late 17th century, with an early 18th-century addition, and has undergone mid-19th-century and late 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of coursed limestone rubble and features a stone slate roof. It has a three-unit plan and is two storeys tall with an attic over a basement.

The southeast front has a brick ridge stack that is off-centre to the left and was rebuilt in the 20th century. There are two gabled roof dormers that contain small-paned wooden casements. The front has a 1:2 window arrangement, with 2- and 3-light wooden casements on the right and 19th-century six-pane glazing bar sashes on the left, all featuring wooden cills and lintels. To the right, there is a pair of four-panelled doors, with the lower panels being beaded flush, sheltered by a hipped lean-to porch. The left-hand unit is an 18th-century addition, indicated by a straight joint, and it was formerly two bays, as evidenced by blocked windows.

The right-hand gable end has an oval datestone that is illegible at the time of the survey in March 1987, but it is said to date from 1604. There is a service range to the right that is one storey tall with a loft. It features a 4-light wooden and metal casement on the left with a wooden lintel, and a boarded loft door to the right. The interior was not inspected, but the owner reported a blocked old fireplace and a large bread oven in the service range.
