Description

The Old Bakery is a house dating from the late 17th century, with 18th-century additions. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble and features stone slate roofs. The building has a two-unit plan with additional flanking sections and stands two storeys tall with an attic.

On the left-hand block, there is an integral stone end stack with weathering and an oversailing cap. The central gabled roof dormer contains a two-light wooden casement. The front has two windows; on the first floor, there are two-light small-paned wooden casements with wooden lintels, while the ground floor features a three-light wooden casement to the left with a 20th-century concrete lintel, and a lean-to square bay to the right with a small-paned window. There is a central blocked doorway.

To the left, there is a lower two-storey addition with a blocked doorway, visible straight joints, and a wooden lintel. The right-hand block has an integral brick end stack. The first floor has a three-light small-paned wooden casement with a wooden lintel, and the ground floor has a 20th-century plate-glass window with a wooden lintel. A boarded door to the right also has a wooden lintel, and there is a two-light attic casement in the right-hand gable end.

Although the interior was not inspected, the owner reported in March 1987 that it contains a semi-circular stone winder staircase and ceiling beams in the 17th-century part. The building is located at the corner of Boot Street and Well Lane.
