Description
Purlin House is a house that dates from the late 18th century to early 17th century, with extensions from the 17th to early 18th century and the 20th century. It features timber framing with brick infill and coursed limestone rubble, complemented by timber lintels and ashlar quoins. The roof is covered with old plain tiles and has both stone and brick stacks. The building has a two-unit plan that has been extended to form an L-shape and infilled. It stands two storeys plus an attic, along with an additional one storey plus attic.
The front of the house has a gable end from the early timber-framed range on the left, which displays irregular casement windows. The remainder of the front is from the 20th century. To the extreme left, there is a stone and brick outshut. The early range features a half-hipped roof with two small two-light dormers facing left and a tall brick ridge stack. The rear gable wall shows significant old brick infill. Behind the front range, there is a taller two-window rubble range that includes casements and two hipped roof dormers. The right gable wall has a large stone chimney projection and a chamfered stone base for the stack. The interior has not been inspected.
