Description

High Stott Park House and Cottage comprises two houses, dating from 1712 with a later 18th-century extension. The houses are constructed of roughcast stone with slate roofs, laid out in an L-shape. The east facade has three bays and extends southward as a lean-to projection against the gable end of the south wing, which itself has a smaller lean-to. Windows are mostly small-paned fixed glazing with opening lights, though the extension to the south features sash windows with glazing bars. The first bay has an entrance with a datestone above it, and a trellis porch. There's a separate entrance to the return of the extension. The lean-to projection includes a recessed ground-floor porch, and two windows above, set within a thin wall, suggesting a possible former gallery. The building has two cross-axial chimney stacks. The south wing is of three bays and features a first-floor sill band. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars. An enclosed porch has paired half-glazed doors and an iron balcony above. Gable-end stacks are present. Decorative bargeboards adorn the returns, with one having a lean-to projection containing a two-light wooden chamfered-mullioned window. The interior includes chamfered beams, one incorporating a gun rack, a two-panel door, two adjacent cupboards with fielded panel doors, and slate shelves in the former dairy. The south wing has two-panel doors with H-L hinges, and a dog-leg staircase with turned balusters and panelled square newels.
