Description
The Colton Accommodation Bridge, built in 1869, carries a private path over the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, which was formerly a branch of the Furness Railway. The bridge features rockfaced snecked rubble piers that support a cast-iron girder bridge. The piers rise to create an interrupted parapet with moulded copings, which is connected by iron railings that have alternate roundels at mid-rail level. The girders are decorated with paterae and have arched ribs that enclose pierced roundels within the spandrels. The bridge has three spans overall.
