Description

Cheddleton Bridge Number 43 is an accommodation bridge built in the early 19th century. It is constructed of brick with stone cappings and features slightly concave faces. The bridge has a single elliptical arch, with a stone hawser block located at the impost level. The parapet and carriageway are cambered, with two diagonal runs and one horizontal run over the span. This section of the Caldon Canal was opened around 1779 to transport limestone from Caldon Low, engineered by John Rennie.
