Description
The lychgate to the Church of St Edward, built around 1876 by George Gilbert Scott Junior, is constructed from ashlar jointed blocks, including the roof. It features a gabled single-storey front with a pointed entry arch set within a recessed panel, which is decorated with floral motifs at the top. Above the arch, there are three stepped lancet openings that are set in ribbed panels, each adorned with coats-of-arms. The sides of the lychgate are supported by clasping buttresses that are stepped in two stages and include a quatrefoil frieze at the impost level. Inside, the lychgate has a stone-ribbed vault.
