Description
The Manager's House at Fell Foot Park, built in 1869, was originally a gas works and is now a house. It features coursed stone rubble with limestone dressings and a slate roof. The building is two storeys high with an attic and has three bays, with the central bay projecting forward under a gable adorned with decorative bargeboards. The corners of the building are marked by quoins. The windows have limestone lintels and casements, some of which are original and have chamfered members. The attic includes a triangular-headed window. The entrance is highlighted by a studded door with decorative strap hinges. At the rear, there is a projecting wing with lean-to extensions on the returns, two stacks, and raking louvres on the roof. The returns also feature decorative bargeboards. The house was built for Colonel G.J.M. Ridehalgh of Fell Foot, who was a member of the first sailing committee of the Windermere Sailing Club from 1854 and one of the founders of the Royal Windermere Yacht Club. The house has been demolished.
