Description
The Southern Boathouse at Fell Foot Park is a boathouse built in 1869. It is constructed from coursed slate rubble and features a slate roof with an asymmetrically pitched design. The boathouse has a pointed boat entrance with an arrow slit above it, and there is a blocked pointed window to the left. The structure includes an embattled parapet that is raised in the center and lower at the left end. There is also a pointed entrance on the east gable end. This boathouse is part of a group built for Colonel G.J.M. Ridehalgh of Fell Foot, who was a member of the first sailing committee of the Windermere Sailing Club from 1854 and one of the founders of the Royal Windermere Yacht Club; the associated house has since been demolished.
