Description

COLTON FINSTHWAITE SD 38 NE 7/41 Jolliver Tree Farmhouse

Wrongly shown on OS map as July Flowertree Farmhouse. Late C17 or early C18. Roughcast stone with slate roof. North elevation of 2 storeys and 3 bays, outhouse to right, and small gabled outhouse to 2nd bay. Windows have casements, some are small-paned top-hung casements. French windows to 3rd bay. Windows to 2nd bay are higher, lighting stairs. Gable-end stacks, that to right is projecting, part corbelled out. East gable end has varied windows, to 1st floor and attic sashed with single glazing bars and horns, those to 1st floor with label moulds; entrance with half-glazed door. South elevation has large ground floor casement windows and irregularly placed 1st floor windows. Interior has fielded panelled partition with dado rail, cornice and 8-panel door. Adjacent round-headed entrance has Corinthian fluted flat pilasters and moulded hood; door has decorative fielded panels. Stone fireplace has corbelled lintel, moulded opening and rosette. Stair has fluted square newels, turned balusters and moulded handrail.
