Description
Pavement End Farmhouse is a late 17th-century farmhouse, with 19th-century additions and 20th-century alterations. It is constructed of coursed Lakeland stone, mainly cement rendered, with a Westmorland slate roof laid to diminishing courses. The house has three rendered chimney stacks and an irregular L-shaped layout, aligned north-south with an asymmetrical rear wing and a small attached outbuilding at the southeast corner.
The front (east) elevation has two storeys and four bays, featuring a boarded and studded front door to the left. There are three ground floor windows and four upper floor windows of irregular sizes and shapes, all with late 20th-century window frames. A shallow lean-to porch with wooden posts is set into the north gable. The rear elevation exhibits an asymmetrically-roofed range to the left, with a stepped stack to the west gable and a long catslide roof pitch including a 20th-century four-light dormer. A recessed central doorway is flanked by a four-light window to the left, while an advanced wing is visible to the right, constructed of unrendered stonework. The interior was not inspected during the listing process.
An attached outbuilding, single-storeyed, connects to the southeast corner of the north-south range. It's built of rubble stonework with massive quoins to the east-facing gable, which incorporates a central doorway beneath a substantial squared stone lintel.
