It is a stone post that stands about 1.25 metres high and has a triangular shape with a round-arched top. The milestone features a cast-iron plaque with raised inscriptions that are painted black against a white background. On the west face, it reads: "YORK / 9¾ MILES / TADCASTER / ¼ MILE." The east face displays: "DONCASTER / 27 MILES / PONTEFRACT / 14¾ MILES / FERRY BRIDGE / 12 MILES."
