Description
Milestone located approximately 800 metres south of the junction with Back Lane, dating from the late 19th century. It is made of ashlar stone and features a cast-iron plaque. The milestone is triangular in shape with a semicircular head, standing about 1 metre high. The raised inscription is painted black against a white background, reading 'TADCASTER & DONCASTER / ROAD / BARKSTON' around the head. On the north side, it lists distances to Doncaster (22 miles), Pontefract (9.75 miles), and Ferrybridge (7 miles). The south side indicates distances to York (14.75 miles) and Tadcaster (5.25 miles).
