Description
This milestone, dating from the 19th century, is located approximately 0.4 miles from the junction with Selby and Leeds Road (A63) in South Milford. It is made of ashlar with a cast-iron facade and has a triangular shape with a semi-circular head, standing about 1.25 meters high. The milestone features a raised inscription painted black against a white background. The inscriptions read: 'TADCASTER & DONCASTER / ROAD / HUDDLESTON / CUM / LUMBY' around the head; 'DONCASTER / 19 MILES / PONTEFRACT / 6¾ MILES / FERRYBRIDGE / 4 MILES' on the north side; and 'YORK / 17¾ MILES / TADCASTER / 8¼ MILES' on the south side.
