Description

This is a milestone from the 19th century located approximately 0.25 miles from the junction with Sutton Lane on the west side of West Leeds Road in Tadcaster. It is made of ashlar stone with a cast-iron facade and has a triangular shape with a semi-circular top, standing about 1 metre high. The milestone features raised lettering that is painted black on a white background, displaying the words 'TADCASTER AND HALTONDIAL / TURNPIKE ROAD' around the head. On the north face, it indicates 'TADCASTER / 2 / MILES', and on the south face, it shows 'LEEDS / 12 / MILES'.
