Description
This milestone, located opposite the junction with Croft Lane on Wetherby Road in Newton-Kyme-cum-Toulston, dates from the 19th century. It is made of ashlar stone with a cast-iron facade and has a triangular shape with a semi-circular top. The milestone stands approximately 1 metre tall. It features a raised inscription painted in black on a white background, which reads: "BOSTON / 2 MILES / WETHERBY / 5¼ MILES / HAREWOOD / 9 MILES / OTLEY / 17¼ MILES" on the west face, and "TADCASTER / 2 MILES" on the east face. The head of the milestone is inscribed with "TADCASTER & OTLEY / ROAD / NEWTON KYME."
