Description
This milestone dates from the 19th century and is located approximately 0.5 miles from the junction with Garnet Lane on the north side of West Leeds Road in Tadcaster. It is made of ashlar stone with a cast-iron facade and has a triangular shape with a semi-circular top. The milestone stands about 1 metre high and features raised lettering painted black on a white background. The inscriptions read 'TADCASTER AND HALTONDIAL / TURNPIKE ROAD' around the head, 'TADCASTER / 1 / MILES' on the west face, and 'LEEDS / 13 / MILES' on the east face.
