Description
Offices to John Smith's Brewery, built in 1883 by Scammell & Collier of Leeds, are constructed from rusticated sandstone with a Welsh slate roof. The building has an L-shaped plan, featuring a 3-storey, 3-bay gable-ended wing and a 4-storey, 7-bay range to the right. The entrance is located at the center of the wing and consists of 4-panel double doors set in a pilastered doorcase with a frieze and a segmental pediment. The windows are casement style throughout, with ground and first floor windows placed under a continuous basket-headed hood-mould. There is a band on the first floor, flat lintels above the third floor of the range, and round-headed arches with keystones at the third floor of the wing and the fourth floor of the range. The building features moulded ashlar coping, and a pilastered and pedimented inscription tablet above the range displays the date. There are find and ridge stacks on the wing. The interior has not been inspected.
