Description
The Methodist Church, along with numbers 32 and 36, is a building located on the north side of High Street in Tadcaster. It was constructed in 1828 and underwent restorations in 1981. A plaque on the building indicates "METHODIST CHURCH / 1828 1981." The structure is made of magnesian limestone ashlar and features a Welsh slate roof. It has a U-shaped plan with a central block that is two stories tall and has four first-floor windows, flanked by slightly projecting three-story, two-bay wings.
The central entrance is round-arched and accessed by a step, featuring six-panel double doors beneath a radial fanlight in a plain surround. The building has 20th-century fixed light windows throughout, set under flat voussoir arches. The ground floor windows have cills, while the first floor has a continuous cill band. There is an ashlar band at the first floor level and a plaque on the building.
The end entrances of the wings also have six-panel doors under radial fanlights with glazing bars in plain surrounds. The windows throughout are sixteen-pane sashes, with cills on the ground and first floors and a cill band on the second floor, all under flat voussoir arches. The wings have separate hipped roofs.
