Description
This building, originally a house, is now used as offices for John Smith's Brewery. It dates from the mid-18th century and has undergone some later alterations. The structure is made of magnesian limestone ashlar, topped with a Welsh slate roof that features tile coping and orange brick stacks. It has an L-shaped plan and stands two storeys high with three bays.
There are three steps leading up to the central entrance, which consists of a six-fielded-panel door beneath an oblong fanlight with glazing bars, all framed by a moulded ashlar architrave that includes a central tripartite keystone. The building has sash windows throughout, which are set under wedge lintels and have ashlar cills. A dentilled eaves band adds detail to the roof, which is hipped to the right with red tile coping and gabled at the left end with ashlar coping. The building features end and ridge stacks. The interior has not been inspected.
