Description

A pair of houses, originally built in the 17th century and significantly rebuilt in the early 19th century, now used as shops. The building is constructed of magnesian limestone ashlar with ashlar dressings and a Welsh slate roof. It is three storeys high and has three bays. A plinth is present on the right-hand side. The central entrances have been altered; the left entrance is now a plate glass window, while the right entrance retains a six-fielded-panel door with a fanlight featuring radial glazing bars, both set within a moulded architrave and surrounded by a joint frieze and hood. A 20th-century shop front of no particular interest is on the left, and a four-pane window with a pilastered surround, frieze, and hood is on the right. The first floor has sixteen-pane sash and casement windows. The second floor features an unequally-hung twelve-pane sash window, a blocked opening, and a casement window, all with ashlar sills and wedge lintels incorporating keystones. Chimneys are located at the ends of the building. The interior is not listed but is said to contain a good 17th-century staircase. The building is included on the list for its group value.
