Description
This milestone, located 1.05 miles south-west of Askham Fields Lane, is likely from the early 19th century. It is a stone post approximately 0.75 metres high, featuring a triangular shape with a round-arched top. The milestone has a cast iron plaque with a raised inscription that is painted black against a white background. On the east face, it reads "TADCASTER / 4 FILES / LEEDS / 18 MILES," while the west face displays "YORK / 5½ MILES." Additionally, around the head of the milestone, it states "TADCASTER & HOBMOOR / ROAD / BILBOROUGH" (with a misspelling of Bilborough).
