Description

This milestone, located approximately 80 metres west of Askham Fields Lane, dates from the early 19th century. It is made of stone and features a cast-iron plaque. The milestone stands about 0.75 metres high and has a triangular shape with a round-arched top. The east face displays a raised inscription painted black on a white background, which reads: "TADCASTER / 5 MILES / LEEDS / 19 MILES." The west face has an inscription that states: "YORK / 4½ MILES." Additionally, around the head of the milestone, it reads: "TADCASTER & H0BM00R / ROAD / ASKHAM BRYAN."
