Description
Number 147 and the entrance to Yard 149 is a Grade II listed shop that was once a house and tannery, dating from the 17th century with later additions. The building is constructed of rendered rubble and features a bracketed eaves cornice. It has a graduated slate roof with stone chimneys at the north end and a brick chimney at the south end. The structure is three storeys high and has three bays, with a wide entry to the yard on the right. The front of the building was originally jettied, with the timber end of the bressummer visible on the north return.
The shop front, added in the 19th century, includes a glazed door set back between plate-glass windows, and is framed by a corniced wooden surround with reeded pilasters. Above, there are three sash windows with glazing bars on each floor. On the north side of the yard passage, there is a wooden wall made of horizontal planking, partly original, which incorporates small sash windows and a recessed plank door.
