Description
The Brewery is a town or dower house built in the early 18th century, likely for Daniel Wilson of Dallam Tower and his wife, Elizabeth Crowle, as indicated by their impaled arms on the lead rainwater head. The building was converted for office use in 1864 and was empty at the time of the survey in April 1984. It features wet-dashed rubble on a hammer-dressed plinth, with an eaves cornice supported by dentils and a graduated slate roof with rendered end chimneys. The structure has three storeys and three bays. Stone steps lead up to a central panelled door with a traceried fanlight, set within a pedimented doorcase that was added later. To the left is a segment-headed coach entrance in a stone surround, and to the right is a sash window. Each floor above has three sash windows, while the ground and first floors on the north return have a single sash window. All sashes include glazing bars, with some being original and wide. Inside, there is a wide, cut-string oak staircase with half-landings, turned balusters, spiral curtails, and ramped handrails. The surviving panelling and fireplaces are likely not original.
