Description
The New Inn is a public house located on Highgate in Kendal. It features a small wooden panel above the door that is dated 1654, and there is a cupboard inside that is initialled and dated I. & A.F. 1658. The building has undergone later alterations and is constructed of wet-dashed rubble on a plinth, with an eaves cornice. It has a graduated slate roof with a wing at the center rear and stone chimneys at both ends. The structure is two storeys high and consists of four bays. The central entrance has a 20th-century plank door. To the left, there are two 2-light windows, and to the right, there is one 4-light window. Above, there are three 2-light windows and one 5-light window. All the windows are casements with wooden mullions, transoms, and glazing bars.
