Description
The Coach and Horses Public House is a public house located in Barnard Castle, dating from the late 18th century with some alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed from coursed squared stone, featuring an ashlar plinth and dressings, and has a stone slate roof with stone gable coping and brick chimneys. The building is two storeys high and has a two-window range. There is a step up to a renewed door with a plain overlight on the right, set in a painted stone surround. To the left, there are boarded double doors leading to a vehicle entrance, which is topped by pecked, margined voussoirs that form an elliptical arch. The central canted bay window includes a cornice and plain sashes. A full-width name board is located at the first floor level. The first floor features 4-pane sashes with painted flat stone lintels and projecting stone sills. The roof has central and end brick chimneys. The interior has not been inspected.
