Description
Nos. 20 and 20A on Galgate is a house, now divided into two homes with shops, dating from around 1800. It is constructed from pecked coursed squared stone with stone dressings, while the left return gable is made of rubble. The building features a stone slate roof with stone gable copings and stone chimneys. It stands two storeys high and has a four-window range.
Access to the left side includes one external step and two recessed inner steps leading to a door with an overlight, all set in a pecked stone surround. To the right, there is a shop front from around 1900 that projects outwards, featuring a wooden fascia and a recessed door to the left. The second bay has a full-height canted window with stone mullions and renewed glazing on the ground floor. The third bay has a renewed window with a flat stone lintel and projecting stone sills. Similar lintels and sills are present on the first floor sashes. All windows, including the bay window, have plate-glass lower sections and two-pane upper lights. The roof has plain end gable coping and a corniced ridge chimney. The interior has not been inspected.
