Description
This is a three-bay house, rebuilt around 1770 for Prixley Smith, and originally used as a hotel (formerly the Marvic Hotel). The front facade was remodelled in the mid-19th century and again in 1983. It is constructed of incised stucco, with a band separating the ground and first floors. The building features a vermiculated plinth, rusticated corner pilasters, and a decorative rainwater head to the eaves cornice. The roof is slate, with rendered end chimneys.
The house has three storeys and a cellar. A carriage arch is located on the left side. A modern shop door and a panelled door are positioned on the north side, within a passage. Two modern shop windows are on the right, and one window on the north return—it is unclear whether this one is in an earlier opening. Two cellar windows are set into the plinth. The carriage arch and shop windows have elliptical heads with projecting imposts and keystones. Three sash windows with glazing bars are on each floor above the shopfront. A tall stair window with glazing bars is located at the rear.
